oh yah, im gonna an entry on the origins of christmas and its tradition. as i did some readings on wikipedia, i found that christmas actually orginates from a pagan festival, named 'yule day'. according to history, the catholic church incorporated elements of christianity to a roman pagan festival, which falls exactly on 25 dec, to please the newly converts, and here this is how christmas come abt. therefore, traditionals like christmas tree and kissing under the mistletoe arent exactly christian inventions. however, after the protestant reformation, some christians attempted to ban christmas as it is seen as pagan. but i find nothing wrong with christmas as it is a day for ppl to spend time with their loved ones, and to commorate the birth of Jesus. for more info to those who are interested, you can refer to the wikipedia article here.
oh yah, as i was idily surfting the wikipedia website, i came across an article on christmas truce which occured during WW1. despite the hostilities and horrors of war, people from the british and german camp put aside their emmity and their nationalistic zeal to destroy the enemies to commemorate the special day. during that day, soldiers from both sides mingled and fraternised with each other, exchanging christmas greetings and gifts. peace was observed during christmas as the artilleries cease their fire. i think this event has indeed exemplified the spirit of christmas who two parties who should be stabbing the enemy actually became friends for the special day. as jesus said 'love even your enemies', i hope that while ppl are having fun for christmas, they should remember this special event and pray for world peace.
